It's August, people. Do you know what that means?
It means there are barely six weeks standing between us and the return of our favourite TV shows.
Say it with me: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
On the can't wait for it repertoire:
Prison Break: Monday, September 17. Michael appears to be figuratively and likely in short order, literally screwed in a South American prison, with his best buddies Bellick and Mahone. and it's up to Lincoln, who is about as smart as a stick of licorice, to break them out. Did I say screwed?
Criminal Minds: Wednesday, September 26. Let's see how quickly the writers were able to roll with the sudden departure of Mandy Patinkin. A new dynamic will be required. The interesting addition late last year of Jayne Atkinson's Erin Strauss could be expanded in Patinkin's absence. Either way, hopefully this series will survive.. it's solid, with good, diverse storylines, and a good range of characters from uptight to quirky, from geeky to hot. Nice.
CSI: Thursday, September 27. Last year's cliffhanger was exceptionally well handled by the show and the network. Reportedly, Jorja Fox refused to show up for the final episode of the season since her character, Sara Sidle, was about to be killed off by the Miniature Killer. The season ended with Sara trapped under a car in the middle of the Vegas desert, alive, but apparently barely so. Was the "refusal" a gimmick to really make the viewers wonder if Sara was going to make it? Likely. It worked. Still no word as to whether Jorja Fox is under contract for the next season, so no resolution for us viewers til 27 September. Looking forward to this one like I've never looked forward to a CSI premiere.
Specifically not looking forward to: Grey's Anatomy: Thursday, September 27. I know I won't be able to tear myself away from watching the train wreck, but I also think that episode 1 has a high probability of being the last time I bother (see here for why).
These are the only shows I'm really hanging out for. I do like me some CSI: Miami and Law and Order: SVU as well, but I'm not terribly concerned about the premieres... those can be seen in syndication on A&E, Spike, Bravo, Mystery and about 10 other channels, 24/7/365. There's also 24, but that won't be starting til January. Too far to think about. And it's kind of getting annoying too, but that rant won't be online til at least November.
2 things to say:
You know? It's been such a banner summer season fro great, hot, fresh shows *not about crime or medicine* that I'm actually sad for the first time ever that Fall premieres are around the corner.
I actually thought Criminal Minds got too dark.
You know what it is? I watch those shows for plot and process, not character.
Herein lies the problem: the actors act in those show for the characters, not the plot or process.
